Transition to secondary school

As pupils reach the end of Year 6, families can choose from a range of secondary schools in Central Bedfordshire or Cambridgeshire. We work closely with these schools to ensure pupils feel ready and supported for the next stage of their education.

Sandy Secondary School Sandy Secondary School is the closest 11–18 provider, with free transport available for pupils travelling from Everton.

Stratton Upper School, Biggleswade Stratton Upper School offers places from Year 9. Pupils choosing this route usually attend a middle school for Years 7 and 8, such as Biggleswade Academy or Edward Peake Middle School.

Cambridgeshire Village Colleges Families may also apply to Comberton Village College, Cambourne Village College, or Bassingbourn Village College. Please note:

  • There is no free transport to these schools.
  • Comberton provides a bus service from Potton and Gamlingay.
  • Bassingbourn offers a pick‑up point in Potton.
  • Charges apply.

Open Evenings and Applications Secondary schools hold open evenings during the first half of the Autumn term, and families are welcome to attend as many as they wish. Key points:

  • Applications must be submitted by 31 October.
  • Families can rank three preferences.
  • School allocations are confirmed in the spring term.

Supporting Year 6 Pupils Throughout Year 6, pupils take part in a range of transition activities designed to build confidence, answer questions, and prepare them for secondary school, ensuring they feel ready for their next step.
