The Pupil Premium Grant is funding provided to schools each year by the Government to help improve the educational outcomes of disadvantaged children. National research shows that pupils from lower‑income families may face additional challenges in school, and the Pupil Premium is designed to support these pupils and help close the attainment gap.
Pupils are eligible for Pupil Premium funding if they:
- Currently receive Free School Meals (FSM), or
- Have been eligible for Free School Meals at any point in the past six years (known as Ever 6).
The school also receives Pupil Premium Plus for children who are looked after, have previously been in care, or have been adopted. In addition, a Service Premium is provided to support the pastoral needs of children from armed forces families.
Your child may be entitled to Free School Meals if you receive any of the following:
- Income Support
- Income‑based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- Income‑related Employment and Support Allowance
- Child Tax Credit (provided you are not also receiving Working Tax Credit and your annual gross income is £16,190 or less)
- Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
- The guaranteed element of State Pension Credit
- Working Tax Credit (for the four‑week period after employment ends or hours are reduced)
- Universal Credit with an annual net earned income of £7,400 or less
For full details or to apply, visit the Central Bedfordshire Council website or call 0300 300 8306.
Schools have the flexibility to use Pupil Premium funding in the way they feel will best support their pupils.
We are committed to ensuring every child is valued as an individual and given the opportunity to thrive. Our Pupil Premium funding is used to provide a wide range of support, which may include:
- Targeted English and Maths interventions
- Regular mentoring and pastoral support
- Assistance with educational visits and enrichment activities
- Support with school uniform
- Counselling services
- Additional learning resources
- Music tuition
Each year, we review our Pupil Premium strategy, spending, and impact by looking at pupil progress, outcomes, and the effectiveness of interventions.
