Since 2013, the government has provided additional funding to improve PE and sport in primary schools. This Sports Premium, allocated according to the number of pupils in Years 1–6, helps us enhance the quality of physical education at Everton Heath.
We use the funding to ensure pupils receive high‑quality PE teaching from skilled professionals. This includes staff training through our local sports partnership, weekly support from two external coaching companies, and an expanded extra‑curricular offer with several subsidised or fully funded clubs.
Our vision is for every pupil to leave primary school physically literate and ready to lead healthy, active lives. To achieve this, we focus on long‑term, sustainable improvements in PE by increasing pupil participation, raising the profile of sport across the school, strengthening staff confidence and expertise, broadening the range of activities available, and encouraging greater involvement in competitive sport.
A specialist PE coach delivers two hours of PE each week in Years 1–6, working alongside staff to ensure consistently high‑quality lessons. Staff have developed their skills through observation, team teaching, professional dialogue, and planning support, helping to secure lasting improvement.
Pupils regularly take part in East Beds School Sports Partnership competitions and festivals, including netball, tag rugby, table tennis, gymnastics, multi‑skills, and athletics, as well as friendly fixtures with local schools. Our after‑school clubs—ranging from American Multi Sports and Taekwondo to football and tag rugby—are extremely popular and open to all age groups.
